Jeff Cooper is a member of the Cayuga Nation, Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. He grew up in the north end of Hamilton and moved to the mountain where he was a graduate of St. Jean de Brébeuf High School. He has been a member of the RCMP for over 25 years and was instrumental in the establishment of the RCMP’s Aboriginal Policing Program in Ontario. He wrote the RCMP’s provincial Aboriginal Policing Policy and Operating Procedures. He also has previous experience in such Units as: Drugs, Federal Enforcement, Air Marshall, and the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team. He managed the RCMP Ontario First Nations Organized Crime Initiative with Ontario’s First Nations Police Services from 2007 to 2012. He was in charge of the RCMP Aboriginal Policing Program in Ontario and currently works full-time with the Six Nations Police Service as the RCMP liaison and participates on several national and local Aboriginal Advisory Committees. Academically, Jeff has a B.A. in History and a B.A. Honors in Sociology, from Brock University; along with a Graduate Certificate in Canadian Studies and a 4yr Masters in American Indian Studies from the University at Buffalo.
